Notes and quotes from day 2 of Eagles minicamp

Posted

The Philadelphia Eagles wrapped up their two day mandatory minicamp session on Wednesday and once again there were some notable developments and updates that were reported from the Jefferson Health Training Complex. .

Day 2 featured more newsworthy updates at the podium rather than on the field with some interesting quotes.

Here are some key notes and updates that were reported:

Jalen Carter attended both days, but did not fully participate

The talented defensive tackle who is looking for a contract extension did attend both mandatory minicamp sessions. He participated in 1-on-1s and individual drills, but not team drills either day which was noteworthy.

Now, the Eagles could be playing it slow with Carter, coming off his shoulder injuries and do not want to rush him back into action just yet. On the flip side of the coin, his non-participation with the team drills could be a result of a possible contract dispute.

Nick Sirianni did not want to offer much insight on the matter.

"I'm sorry, I'm not going to get into all those different things," Sirianni said, when asked if Carter's absence was injury and/or contract related.

"Right now, I've been able to work some individual scenarios and individual practices, and everybody's in a little bit different boat right now of where they are in the offseason, and that's where Jalen is right now."

Cam Jurgens did not hold back on his stem cell treatment

Center Cam Jurgens was peppered with questions regarding his decision to go to Colombia to receive stem cell therapy with many stem-cell procedures currently restricted in the United States. However, Jurgens was up front about his decision.

Jurgens also spoke highly in regards to working with new offensive line coach Chris Kuper.

"I'm really enjoying it. It’s a different room honestly. Came in with Stout, learned so much from him. Interesting going from Stout to Kuper because he’s played in the league. He’s gone through the stuff we have. It’s a different vantage point. It’s fun learning new techniques. I’m excited."

The Eagles could benefit greatly if the center is feeling as close to 100% as possible heading into the season after dealing with injuries over the last two seasons.

Rookie injuries

Makai Lemon (hamstring) did not participate in either day of the minicamp as expected. Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice reported that fellow rookie tight end Eli Stowers also did not participate in most drills on Wednesday, noting that second round pick had a sleeve on his right leg.

OT Markel Bell also did not practice on Wednesday, either.  So the top three picks for the Eagles in this year’s draft are all currently dealing with injuries.

Jalen Hurts dismisses he called for the four verts play at end of Niners playoff loss

The quarterback was asked a handful of questions ranging from A.J. Brown's comment about their relationship not being as tight as it once was, if he called the four verticals play on the final play of the game in the playoff loss to San Francisco and about the ESPN report that claimed he was resistant to change.

Hurts provided an answer regarding the Brown comment similar to Nick Sirianni in terms of  how the team has to collectively be all in to help one another and accomplish their ultimate goals.

Here is his answer on the play call in the Niners game:

And last but not least,  Hurts' response to the ESPN report:

Roster Moves

The Eagles capped off the day announcing roster moves:

Signed DE A.J. Epenesa and G Michael Jordan

Waived LB Chandler Martin and LB Isiah King

Epenesa is  an interesting addition for the Eagles. The former second-round pick in the 2020 draft by the Buffalo Bills has 24 career sacks during his six-year career.

Last season with the Bills, he had 32 total tackles, two TFLs, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and four pass defelections.

The Cleveland Browns were initally in on the defensive end  according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Could the addition mean that Brandon Graham is not returning for another season or Howie Roseman is adding depth to get ready for another trade?

Time will tell and we have a lot of it. The Eagles will now be off until training camp begins in late July.
