5 Flyers to keep an eye on as Rookie Camp draws near

Posted

The Philadelphia Flyers will kick off rookie camp on September 11, featuring several young players hoping to earn a spot on the Flyers roster.

The team announced its 27-player roster, featuring 16 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders. Here are the players to watch as rookie camp kicks off.

Many of the players rostered have already appeared in NHL games, but are still considered rookies. Most notable are Porter Martone, Denver Barkey, Alex Bump, Oliver Bonk, and Jett Luchanko.

Porter Martone

First on the list of players to watch is Porter Martone, who heads into rookie camp having appeared in nine regular-season games and ten playoff games for the Flyers last season.

The 19-year-old scored his first NHL goal in an overtime victory against the Boston Bruins on April 5. In total, during the regular season, Martone recorded four goals and six assists. Throughout the ten playoff games, he scored two goals and tallied three assists.

Martone will get his first taste of Rookie Camp this year after missing it last season.

Denver Barkey

The next player to watch is Denver Barkey. Barkey appeared in 43 NHL games with the Flyers last season, scoring 5 goals and 12 assists.

The 21-year-old forward looks to further prove himself this Rookie Camp.

Alex Bump

The third player to watch is Alex Bump. Bump appeared in 17 regular-season games and six playoff games during the 2025-26 season. He recorded nine points in the regular season and two in the postseason.

Oliver Bonk

Oliver Bonk is the next player to watch. Bonk appeared in just one regular-season game last year. He heads into this season looking for a more permanent spot in the lineup.

Jett Luchanko

The final notable player with major-league experience is Jett Luchanko. The former 2024 first-round pick appeared in four regular-season games and one postseason game last year.

Under-the-radar

Several other players are worth watching this season. Although they don’t have NHL experience, there are still strong storylines to follow throughout Rookie Camp.

The first two players to watch are Maksim Sokolovskii and Ilya Pautov.

Sokolovskii, the 2026 first-round draft pick, will be heading to juniors with London after camp, meaning this will be a good opportunity to see the 6-foot-7 defenseman.

Pautov, on the other hand, was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NHL draft. The Russian signed with the Flyers in June before announcing he would move to the United States ahead of this season. Both will be looking to make an impression on the organization at Rookie Camp.

The final player to watch is Sawyer Dingman. Dingman was invited to Flyers development camp after going undrafted. The 17-year-old forward will compete alongside the other rookies.
