Flyers “dodged a bullet” with Dan Vladar injury

Dan Vladar could be back on the crease sooner than we thought

Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet said Wednesday that the team may have dodged a bullet after goaltender Dan Vladar left Tuesday’s preseason game injured.

"I think we dodged a bullet," Tocchet said. "He's in good spirits today."

Vladar left the game 6:29 into the first period of the teams' clash with the Bruins. He played 13:31 total minutes and posted an .857 save percentage.

The 29-year-old faced seven shots, stopped six, and left after losing his stick and allowing a goal. Aleksei Kolosov replaced him.

The team announced Wednesday that Vladar is day-to-day.

Tocchet was asked on Wednesday how comfortable he would be with Joseph Woll, the offseason goaltending acquisition, starting in the season opener.

Tocchet said he would feel “very comfortable”.

Woll played the first 40 minutes of the Flyers' first preseason game against the Washington Capitals and spoke with reporters on Wednesday about how comfortable he would be carrying the load at the start of the season.

“I think I’ve proven that I can do that in my career,” Woll said. “So my goal from the start with this team has been to help them however I can, whatever situation that means, so [it] doesn’t really change my process or my day-to-day or my mindset with whatever happens.”

Tocchet told the media on Thursday that Woll would start and play the full preseason game against the Bruins.

The puck drops at 7 pm as the Flyers prepare to play on home ice for the first time this season.
