With the support of a mini-grant from Bucks 250PA and a partnership with Fallsington Friends Meeting, the Friends of Bolton Mansion is hosting Norman E. Donoghue’s presentation on his book “Prisoners of Congress: Philadelphia Quakers in Exile, 1777-1778” in the Social Hall of Bolton Mansion’s Meetinghouse, at 85 Holly Dr. in Levittown, on April 21. We invite all to arrive at 5:30 pm to see our displays and books for sale. The talk will start promptly at 6 pm.
Norman has done extensive research on the Quaker experience during the American Revolution and his book chronicles an untold story of Quaker men who were exiled. The Friends of Bolton Mansion are suggesting a donation of $10 to help support the maintenance and restoration of the mansion. Donations can be made via cash, check, PayPal or Venmo.
The Friends of Bolton Mansion (all volunteers) has an enormous job in ensuring that the historic buildings that make up Bolton Mansion will be part of the community for many generations to come. The original structure, known as the Blue Room, was constructed in 1687, the Tan Room built by 1699, the “dining room” and “gift shop” in 1792, and the parlor in 1876. Phineas Pemberton, a peer and close friend of William Penn, purchased the property in 1699 and was assigned by Penn to be his Director of Records for Bucks County. The mansion was then occupied for many generations by the Pemberton and Morris families. Tours are available by appointment for groups and individuals to explore the vast important history of Bolton.
