Eagles place QB Jalen Hurts on injured reserve

The Eagles are dealt yet another gut punch as far as Super Bowl hopes are concerned

Posted

Just a few days after it was announced that Jalen Hurts had been dealing with a superficial blood clot, the Philadelphia Eagles have placed him on injured reserve.

This does mean that Hurts will have to miss at least the next four games, making him eligible for return after the team's week 10 bye to potentially face the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 11.

Of course, the priority here is ensuring Jalen gets the support and treatment he needs for something which is obviously bigger than football and will need monitoring to ensure it doesn't become more serious. Giving him a month ensures that the process of getting the treatment right isn't rushed, and he also has enough time recover from it safely. It is absolutely the right decision.

The Eagles have been dealt a horrible hand here. Not only has their offensive line been completely reshuffled midseason, but injuries have plagued the offense in its entirety, with the wideout and running back spots also suffering heavily. Only adding to the pain is losing the Super Bowl LIX MVP for multiple weeks.

Joe Milton was poached from the Cowboys' practice squad earlier this week, meaning the Eagles do have a second arm behind Tanner McKee with NFL exerpeince. Rookie QB Cole Payton remains waiting in the wings for now.

Philadelphia now has plenty of questions to answer moving forward in terms of how this team will handle the current season. The chances of a deep playoff run are evaporating by the week and Howie Roseman, already with numerous dead-cap qualms to battle, will have to make some big calls as we get closer to the trade deadline.

For now, the priority is once again ensuring Jalen Hurts receives the correct treatment and appropriate time to heal.
