Hurts out for the season after being diagnosed with blood clots in lungs

The Eagles QB is said to be clinically stable and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to Adam Schefter, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is set to miss the rest of the season following updates on the superficial blood clot that landed him on IR this past week.

Tom Pelissero noted that new imaging this past weekend revealed several blood clots in his lungs. The NFL insider also noted that Hurts is now on blood thinners and the treatment should hopefully yield no long-term effects — although the idea of a return this season was squashed in Schefter's report.

Jalen's agent, Nicole Lynn, put out a statement shortly after the news broke:

Lynn's statement provides some long-term positivity for Jalen's health. He's clinically stable and they expect a full recovery from what has now been diagnosed as deep vein thrombosis. That expectation is absolutely the most important thing to take away from today's developments.

It's been hard for people to make sense of what exactly has happened over the last few weeks, but with Hurts stable and undergoing treatment, that is absolutely the best-case scenario for something that could've continued to fly under the radar and escalate.

Hurts won't be allowed to partake in contact activities during his treatment, which removes football from the equation completely. There is currently no estimated timeline for his return.

Tanner McKee started in the absence of Hurts against Carolina on Sunday and will likely do so for the foreseeable future. He completed 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in the 25-14 loss.

Joe Milton was signed from the Cowboys' practice squad last week as an emergency arm.

As the Eagles' season continues to spiral out of control, the one absolute guarantee is that everyone in Philadelphia will be rooting for Hurts as he undergoes treatment.
