The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they are inducting owner Jeffrey Lurie into the Eagles Hall of Fame on Monday, Oct. 26, the same date the team hosts Dallas for a Monday Night Football clash.
The induction of Lurie is a no-brainer, and something he's long-deserved since acquiring the franchise back in May of 1994. Since then, the beloved owner has turned the franchise into not only one of the NFL's most poignant, bringing two championships to the City of Brotherly Love, but also one of the most active in the community.
The Lurie Autism Institute and the Eagles Autism Foundation have combined to raise over $100 million for a cause close to many hearts and to help with research, care, and awareness. With yearly events often attended by players and key names associated with the franchise, the Eagles Autism Foundation has become a cause that thousands of people love to support.
On top of the championship glory, Lurie is one of only five NFL owners to have helped garner 300 total wins, four Super Bowl appearances, of which he's won two. Those appearances have all come in the last 22 years, making the Eagles the only team to achieve that feat.
12 NFC East championships and 20 total playoff appearances simply do not do Lurie enough justice. He's been at the forefront of not only making the Philadelphia Eagles a successful franchise and business, but one that gives back to local communities, inspires many to do the same, and brings a progressive and inclusive nature to a sport that at the time of his arrival, really needed someone to spearhead that push.
From making Lincoln Financial Field an incredibly energy efficient stadium, to supporting girls flag football in local areas and trying to enhance educational opportunities for at-risk children, Jeffrey Lurie's tenure as Eagles' owner is one of humility, selflessness, and leading by example. He's set the bar incredibly high for owners of all businesses, football-based or otherwise.
Philadelphia has been incredibly lucky to have a man like Mr. Lurie at the forefront of the Eagles for so long, and it's amazing to see him getting his flowers by being inducted to the teams' Hall of Fame.
