Eagles' Jonathan Greenard to begin training camp on PUP list

Posted

The biggest offseason acquisition for the Philadelphia Eagles in pass rusher Jonathan Greenard has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Eagles traded for Greenard on Day 2 of the NFL Draft back in April for two third round picks, this year’s No. 98 selection and a third-rounder next year. The team and Greenard then put pen to paper on a lucrative four-year, $100 million extension with $50 million guaranteed.

According to The Athletic’s Brooks Kubena, Greenard’s injury, which he suffered while lifting weights, is not expected to force the newcomer to miss significant time.

The 28-year-old had three sacks in 12 games last season while dealing with injuries but posted the seventh-best pressure rate in the NFL despite being limited. In the previous two seasons prior, Greenard posted back-to-back double-digit sacks, racking up a career-best 12.5 in 2023 and added 12 more in 2024 to earn his first Pro Bowl selection.

The injury will delay Greenard's ability to get acclimated to Vic Fangio’s defense, but should open up more opportunities for reps for the other players that are competing in a for that second starting spot  at the EDGE position between Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt while Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa will battle in a rotational role.

The Eagles hit the practice field Wednesday morning for their first training camp practice at the Jefferson Health Training Complex.
