While their play on the field can often be frustrating, the Philadelphia Phillies organization does an incredible job of giving back to their community.

It is an area where they should be commended for their efforts.

On Monday morning, each Major League Baseball team released their nominations for the Roberto Clemente Award. This award was renamed after MLB Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Pirates legend Roberto Clemente in 1973 after Clemente's tragic death. During his play days, Clemente was truly one of professional sports' greatest philanthropic providers.

The Phillies nominated designated hitter Kyle Schwarber for their 2026 representative.

The Phillies organization issued the following statement on Monday morning.

“Kyle embodies many of the qualities that make the Roberto Clemente Award so special. He is an exceptional player, a tremendous teammate and leader, and someone who is deeply committed to serving others,” said Phillies Charities, Inc. President Bonnie Clark. “Through Schwarber's Neighborhood Heroes, Kyle and his wife, Paige, have made a significant impact on the lives of first responders, military personnel and their families. Kyle is very deserving of this recognition, and we’re proud to nominate him for this prestigious award.”

Schwarber has done incredible work since joining the Phillies in 2022. Both on and off the field, Schwarber's efforts have been a home run.

In 2017, Kyle and his wife Paige started Schwarber's Neighborhood Heroes, in an effort to honor first responders.

“Giving back to first responders, military personnel and their families is something that means a great deal to Paige and me,” said Schwarber. “We’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible heroes and hearing their stories. Their courage and sacrifice inspire us every day. To be nominated for an award that honors Roberto Clemente’s legacy is truly humbling.”

The Schwarber family has taken the organization to each city that he has played in. With Schwarber under contract for the next four seasons after 2026, it appears that the foundation will make its mark on Philadelphia for a long time coming.

Last season Aaron Nola was the Phillies' nomination. Nola would go on to later win the MLBPA's 2025 Philanthropist of the Year Award.
