Phillies' Kyle Schwarber named Silver Slugger finalist

Can Schwarber claim his second Silver Slugger crown?

Posted

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber will be chasing a second Silver Slugger title after being named in MLB's list of finalists for 2026.

The award is given to the best hitter at each position across Major league Baseball and is voted on by current managers and coaches (although they're excluded from voting on their own players).

Schwarber of course won the award back in 2022 and is once again in contention after finishing the season with 45 home runs, tied with Pete Crow-Armstrong for the best in the league.

The other award finalist at the designated hitter position is none other than Shoehi Ohtani, although the 32-year-old had a disappointing season by his standard, putting up 30 homers compared to Schwarber's 45, and posting a .275 batting average. Schwarber slashed .232/.354/.503 while Ohtani's line ended at .275/.377/.512. The Dodger might have had the better overall season, but Schwarber did have more appearances at the plate while Shohei battled injuries, which will have to be taken into consideration.

Schwarber isn't the only Phillie up for some end-of-season silverware. Cristopher Sánchez was named as a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award while closer Jhoan Duran earned a nod for Reliever of the Year.

The award winners will be announced on November 17th.
