Morris Arboretum & Gardens

Spring at Morris Arboretum & Gardens is a season of change, color, and fresh growth. Set across 92 acres in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood, this public garden comes to life with blooming trees, emerging flowers, and active bird life, making this an especially rewarding time to explore.

Originally the private estate of siblings John and Lydia Morris, Morris Arboretum & Gardens opened to the public in 1933 and is now the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each year, the plant collections awaken with fresh energy as flowering trees brighten the hillsides, thousands of bulbs mark the start of the season, and new leaves unfurl across the gardens.

Spring is an invitation to slow down and wander. Follow winding paths through lush garden spaces, pause by Morris Pond to take in reflections of budding branches, or stroll the Rose Garden as it begins its seasonal display. Step into the historic Victorian Fernery for a tropical escape filled with soft light and vibrant fronds. Throughout the gardens, sculptures, fountains, and architectural features emerge alongside fresh foliage and blossoms.

For a new perspective, explore Out on a Limb, Morris’s tree canopy walk, where visitors experience the forest from up to 50 feet above the ground. Seasonal exhibitions like the beloved Garden Railway, and special events like family programs and tours, offer even more reasons to return throughout the season.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing walk, interesting plants and trees, or an easy outdoor outing with family and friends, Morris Arboretum & Gardens is a welcoming place to spend a spring day. Plan your visit at morrisarboretum.org.
