Peddler’s Village celebrates America’s 250th with ‘Sights in Sand’ exhibit

Posted

This summer, Peddler’s Village is inviting visitors to hit the road — without ever leaving Bucks County.

Beginning June 1, the beloved countryside destination will debut its fifth annual summer sand sculpture display, transforming the Village into a coast-to-coast celebration of America ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday. This year’s theme, 'Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip,' will feature towering sculptures inspired by five regions of the United States: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West.

Throughout the property, guests will discover intricately carved scenes showcasing iconic landmarks and slices of Americana. From the Statue of Liberty and Kennedy Space Center to Mount Rushmore, Route 66 and the Golden Gate Bridge, the sculptures will pay tribute to the country’s diverse landscapes, architecture, wildlife and history — all sculpted entirely from sand.

The summer-long installation will once again be created by internationally recognized master sand sculptors Team Sandtastic alongside acclaimed artist John Gowdy and his wife, Laura Cimador-Gowdy. Visitors arriving in mid-May may even catch the artists in action as the massive sculptures begin to take shape.

Designed with families in mind, the exhibit will also include sandboxes where children can create their own sandy masterpieces. Young explorers can continue the adventure with a self-guided scavenger hunt using a complimentary “Road Trip Map,” available at the Visitor & Event Center. Kids who complete the hunt will receive a prize.

Adults can also join the fun with a seasonal overnight stay giveaway. Guests 18 and older can enter for a chance to win a package that includes a one-night stay at the Golden Plough Inn, breakfast for two, a $150 dining gift card, passes to the Mercer Museum and a pair of Bucks County history books ('Hidden History of Bucks County' by Jen Rogers and 'The Historic Sites and Bites Cookbook,' from the Washington Crossing Historic Park gift shop). Each package is valued at approximately $500, with one prize awarded each month in June, July, and August. Online entries for the giveaways will be available beginning June 1.

'Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip' is funded in part through the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program and supported by several Village shops, including The Celtic Rose, Extra Virgin, Fox & Holly, The Lucky Cupcake Company, Nina’s Waffles and Ice Cream and Pieces.
