Daybreak at The Birches at New Hope

The Birches at New Hope has an exciting update! Construction is complete, and with our certificate of occupancy, the community can welcome a small number of residents while we await final approval of our state license. In mid-October, three residents moved into the Daybreak memory care neighborhood. Once licensure is granted, we’ll be ready to welcome additional residents in personal care and memory care.

While we wait, let us introduce you to Daybreak, our secure memory care neighborhood designed for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our memory care program is innovative, changing the standard of care by shifting away from outdated practices and toward a positive, person-centered focus. While dementia is often described in terms of loss, there are still opportunities for meaningful connection, joy, and the preservation of dignity.

With dementia, brain change is happening; it is not a matter of choice. As care partners, we must actively choose the right approach to support these changes. Teepa Snow, a nationally recognized dementia educator, reminds us, “Just like gems, each person is precious, valuable, and unique, and given the right setting and care, can shine.”

Teepa Snow emphasizes that stigma and lack of knowledge about dementia can obscure our view of the potential that remains in the people we care for. Her Positive Approach to Care® and GEMS®: Brain Change Model cast dementia in a hopeful light, guiding care partners to adjust perspectives, attitudes, communication strategies, and actions to create meaningful relationships.

Her approach inspires our compassionate care. Guided by her methodologies, our Memory Care Director creates personalized plans that build on each resident’s strengths, foster independence, nurture interests, and encourage joyful, fulfilling interactions among residents and staff.
