Philadelphia has cleared room to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope after trading Broome to Los Angeles.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded forward Johni Broome and a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations Tuesday, clearing the salary needed to sign veteran Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Broome, 24, was the No. 35 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the final draft pick by Sixers former President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. Despite the Sixers' need for frontcourt depth last season, Broome never carved out a consistent role, appearing in just 11 games.

In those appearances, Broome averaged 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in five minutes per game. Broome especially struggled with efficiency, shooting 16.7% from the field and 33.3% from the free-throw line, and missing all five of his three-point attempts.

The second-round pick heading to Los Angeles will be the second-best of the three the Sixers own next season. Either their own 2027 second-round pick, the better of Phoenix or Golden State, or the best of Oklahoma City, Houston, Indiana or Miami, according to Jake Fischer of the Stein Line.

The Clippers are buying low on a recent top-35 pick while adding another second-round selection in next year's draft. The Clippers currently owe their 2027 second-round pick to the Utah Jazz.

Upon signing Caldwell-Pope, the Sixers will have 14 of their 15 standard roster spots filled, along with two of their potential three two-way contracts. The Sixers have very little room and flexibility to fill that 15th roster spot, with just $1,828,528 sitting between them and the first apron after the addition. The Sixers can create an additional $2,334,539 in space by waiving Jabari Walker before Jan. 10, which would be needed to sign a player of any NBA experience to a full-season NBA contract.

The Sixers will likely have more flexibility in the NBA’s buyout market, which will form around and after the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday, Feb. 11.
