Trevor Zegras on the Flyers' new fourth line: 'Not a lot of brain cells, but they're good'

The Flyers' star was all smiles after a big win against the Avalanche.

The Philadelphia Flyers have won two straight after opening the 2026-27 season with nine consecutive losses. A pair of wins over the Senators and Avalanche has finally given the team a foundation to build on. Strong goaltending and the upside fans believed in all along were on display in the two victories, but the team has suffered some knocks along the way.

As of October 21, the team is monitoring six starters for injuries.

Tyson Forester is day-to-day, Owen Tippett is on IR, along with Cam York, Rasmus Ristolainen, Nikita Grebenkin, and Travis Konecny.

Even with several starters out, the young call-ups have made an early impact. Alex Bump, Denver Barkey, and Cole Knuble made their NHL debut on the fourth line against the Avalanche and adjusted quickly to the challenge.

After the game, Trevor Zegras was asked about the young line and the impact of the younger players.

“Not a lot of brain cells. Not a lot of brain cells, but they're good,” Zegras said. “They're great; [they] bring a lot of energy to the team in the locker room, on the bench. They're having a blast, which goes up and down the lineup.”

That level of cohesion should only yield good results for the Flyers. If there is a sense of positive energy in a locker room that has not only been hit by short-term injuries, but heaps of both internal and external pressure, that is absolutely a good sign.

The team is starting to turn its season around after the rough start. They will try to extend their winning streak to three games tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.
