France is on its way to the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup after a dominant 3-0 win over Sweden on Tuesday. France will face Paraguay in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Kylian Mbappé picked up a brace in the win to give him six goals in the tournament thus far. He is tied with Lionel Messi for first in the Golden Boot race.  Mbappé has 18 goals in his last 18 World Cup appearances and is second all-time in goals, just one behind Messi.

Mbappé had four total shots on target, finishing with 0.63 xG and 1.74 xGOT. More goals were loaded in the chamber, but he was only able to capitalize on two.

Since debuting in the 2018 World Cup, no player has more goals in the tournament with 18, or involvements with 22, than the 27-year-old Frenchman. Mbappé continues to put his game into another gear while representing France, and it's always a treat to watch.

World Cup Round of 32  - France vs Sweden

France entered the match in a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Sweden played a 4-4-2.

France completely controlled the first half with 71% ball possession compared to Sweden's 29%. After countless scoring chances, Mbappé broke through in the 45th minute. France played a corner short with Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé, and Mbappé all combining. Mbappé took control of the ball in the far area and danced his way inside before firing the ball into the far right corner.

Anthony Elanga gave Sweden a good chance to bring the match level in stoppage time, but Elliot Stroud fired the eventual shot wide of the goal.

Bradley Barcola doubled France's lead in the 53rd minute. Olise fed a pass to Barcola, who had all the time and space in the world inside the box to control the ball before firing it into the back of the goal. Sweden's defense was in all kinds of shambles in France's buildup, allowing Olise and Barcola to work magic.

Who else but Mbappé to triple France's lead in the 74th minute? Again, another superb setup from Olise for the goal. He threaded the needle once again between two Swedish defenders with Mbappé on the receiving end. Mbappé controlled the ball with the outside of his right foot and fired it into the goal with his inside. His second goal of the match put him level with Messi in the Golden Boot chase.

There were some positives from Sweden on Tuesday, but they were completely overwhelmed by France. Their run ends while France continues.
