Sixers injury report: Dominick Barlow out, 3 questionable for season opener vs. Knicks

The Sixers could be shorthanded for Tuesday's season opener against the Knicks, with Dominick Barlow sidelined and several key reserves dealing with injuries.

Ahead of their season opener against the New York Knicks, the Sixers submitted their first injury report of the season, which included several rotation players, headlined by last season's starting power forward, Dominick Barlow.

Barlow underwent imaging Monday, which revealed a lumbar spine bone stress response, according to the Sixers. As a result, he is out for the team's season opener and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Barlow has been dealing with back soreness throughout the preseason, missing all four games and the majority of the team's practices. His role was expected to decrease with the arrivals of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, but he's still a valuable piece for the team, especially given its uncertainty at the center position.

Tacko Fall, who also missed nearly all of training camp with a hip strain, is listed as out. Fall's original training camp deal was converted to a two-way contract last week to help bolster the Sixers' center depth, but it appears he's not quite ready to hit the hardwood. He has participated in some individual workouts at practice but did not participate Monday.

Questionable role players

Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons and Adem Bona were all listed as questionable for Tuesday's matchup, potentially leaving the Sixers with little depth in a worst-case scenario.

Wade injured his ankle in the team's preseason finale and has not participated in practice since. Outside of LeBron James, Wade was the Sixers' marquee free agent acquisition and figures to be one of the most important depth pieces on the roster. His defensive talent and versatility, combined with his floor spacing, will be heavily relied upon this season when he's able to take the court.

Simons has been nursing a lingering hamstring injury that also caused him to miss the preseason. Brought in as the team's top guard off the bench, his sharpshooting ability makes him an especially dangerous fit alongside the Sixers' stars and has already got Tyrese Maxey buzzing about his ability.

Bona, who is now the clear backup for Joel Embiid after Ariel Hukporti's season-ending Achilles tear, also missed all of the preseason and training camp with a foot sprain he suffered while playing for the Turkish national team over the summer.

The Sixers will be without several of their top frontcourt reserves if Bona and Wade cannot take the court Tuesday in New York. Should that be the case, expect plenty of run for Jabari Walker, who was among the most impressive Sixers this preseason.
