Every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month reminds us that early detection saves lives. Lower Bucks Hospital encourages women in our community to schedule a 3D mammogram—a quick, important appointment that can detect breast cancer before symptoms appear.
A 3D mammogram, or breast tomosynthesis, captures multiple X-ray images from different angles and creates a layered view of breast tissue. This technology can improve cancer detection and reduce false positives, particularly for women with dense breast tissue. The procedure is similar to a traditional mammogram and takes only a few minutes.
Screening helps identify tumors when they are small and most treatable. Waiting for symptoms may delay diagnosis, so regular mammograms are essential—even for women who feel healthy.
General screening guidelines include:
Women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, inherited mutations such as BRCA1 or BRCA2, dense breast tissue, or other risk factors should discuss personalized screening recommendations with their healthcare provider.
Be alert for changes such as a new lump, breast or nipple pain, skin dimpling, redness or thickening, nipple retraction, unusual discharge, or changes in breast size or shape. Although many breast changes are noncancerous, any new or persistent symptom should be evaluated promptly.
This October, turn awareness into action. Lower Bucks Hospital offers advanced 3D mammography with a compassionate imaging team committed to making your visit comfortable and reassuring.
