Celebrating 60th anniversary: Season opens Oct. 24 with program featuring Broadway performers, Irish music and a live performance of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

Posted

Sixty years ago, a small group of musicians was formed to perform in the “Merry Widow” operetta. From this core group, the Warminster Symphony Orchestra was born. Today, WSO is a distinguished, 70-member symphony performing four subscription concerts throughout the year and a much-anticipated Pops concert in January.

Joseph Lovecchio, maestro and music director since 1995, has expanded the concert programming and invited guest soloists of national and international renown — bringing the WSO to a level of quality that is uncommon in community orchestras.

“This celebratory season offers every music patron a diversity of programming and guest artists that will surprise and delight our audience,”  Lovecchio said.

“Our opening concert on Oct. 24, entitled “An Evening with Ciaran and Friends,” features the one and only Ciaran Sheehan, Broadway star of "Phantom" and "Les Mis.” He will be joined by Kaley Ann Voorhees, currently starring in the Broadway production, “Masquerade,” and guitarist, singer, and entertainer, Gabriel Donohue, who previously toured with the Irish band The Chieftains. To top it all off, we will be performing a one-of-a kind live production of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” featuring our soloists, a rock band, a 16-voice chorus and our 70-piece orchestra,” Lovecchio continued.

“I feel that this opening celebration of our 60th season is a gift to our loyal audience, bringing Broadway stars to our area without the travel and expense of a trip to New York.”

All concerts are held at the spacious, 1900-seat William Tennent Auditorium and begin at 7:30 p.m.  There is ample free parking,  Season subscriptions offer 30% savings over at-the-door tickets and seniors save 40%.
