Spotlight: Newtown Quilters Guild

Posted

What happens when 75 volunteers take 1,584 pieces of fabric to their sewing machines?  The result is a stunning queen-sized quilt that will become the property of a lucky raffle-winner at the Newtown Quilters’ Guild’s quilt show.

The NQG quilt show is a celebration of the art created by its 120 members, and opportunities for guests to purchase quilts, fabric, notions, and handmade gift items.

This year’s show will mount over 150 quilts made by guild members, with sizes from as small as 24 inches wide to king-sized quilts. Take time to marvel at the designs, color patterns and even the humor displayed in these unique creations.

The show includes Aunt Sukie’s Attic, where shoppers can find fabric for $4/yard and craft books for $1 each.  The Attic also notions at below store prices.

And what about that 1,584-piece raffle quilt?  It could be yours by purchasing a $1 raffle ticket. There will also be a raffle of dozens of small quilts and gift baskets.

Profits from the show are funneled into the community, because philanthropy is a large part of the guild’s activities. In 2025, the guild donated 230 quilts for hospitalized children, 189 Christmas stockings for needy children, 44 Patriot quilts for babies born to a service member and 5 quilts for Camp Erin children who have lost a family member.

The Newtown Quilters’ Guild quilt show will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Newtown Middle School, 116 Richboro Newtown Rd. in Newtown. Please support our community by donating a non-perishable food item and receive $1 off the $10 admission. Children under 12 are free to attend. What better way to interest a new generation in the fun and artistry of quilting?
