St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

Posted

As the streets of Newtown Borough glow with candlelight and evergreen, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church invites you to step into history and holiness this Christmas season. Founded in 1832, our parish continues to be a place where beauty, reverence, and community meet—where the ancient rhythms of Anglican worship still lift hearts heavenward.

For generations, St. Luke’s has stood as a spiritual landmark in the heart of Newtown, its brick walls and stained-glass windows bearing witness to nearly two centuries of prayer and praise. Rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, our worship embraces the mystery and majesty of the Incarnation through Scripture, sacrament, and sacred song. Each Christmas, that heritage comes alive as candlelight fills the church and the familiar words of ancient prayers and carols recall the hope of Bethlehem.

Join us on Sunday, December 9 at 7:30 PM for A Service of Lessons & Carols, an hour-long celebration in word and song that traces the story of Christmas from prophecy to nativity. The congregation joins in beloved carols while choir and musicians offer European sacred music in the English choral tradition. Make St. Luke’s part of your family’s holiday tradition as we welcome the seasons of Advent and Christmas in beauty and joy.

Our celebration continues with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services for all ages:

December 24 – Christmas Eve

2 pm: Family Service
7:30 pm: Christmas Concert
8 pm: Solemn Mass of Christmas Night

December 25 – Christmas Day
10 am: Low Mass (Families are warmly encouraged to come in their pajamas—a joyful and cozy tradition!)

January 1 – Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus

Come celebrate the mystery and majesty of Christmas at historic St. Luke’s, located at 100 E. Washington Ave. in Newtown, where the light still shines in the darkness and the song of the angels is ever new.
