Last month, we talked about the importance of preventive maintenance - for both your home and your oral health. Since we’re still in the Home & Garden mindset, I thought we could look at your smile from a slightly different perspective - as the “curb appeal” of your face.
Curb appeal is often the first thing we notice about a home. In much the same way, your smile is one of the first things people see when they meet you. It can be an easy and natural way to communicate warmth, friendliness and confidence.
If you feel your smile’s curb appeal could use a little attention, there are many attainable ways to improve it. At BCDD, we have been providing cosmetic dentistry for more than 35 years, helping patients achieve smiles they feel confident sharing. That can mean something as simple as professional GLO Science in-office teeth whitening, which can brighten your smile in a single visit, or more comprehensive treatments such as porcelain veneers or gingival sculpting.
Remember, just as curb appeal isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to a home, a healthy smile is about much more than appearance. Your mouth is an integral part of your overall health. The health of your teeth and gums is connected to what is happening throughout your body, and research continues to demonstrate important associations between oral health and systemic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other inflammatory conditions. Because of the close oral-systemic connection, taking care of your oral health is an important part of taking care of your overall health.
So, by all means, keep your smile looking its best—but remember that the best “curb appeal” starts with a strong foundation. After all, when it comes to your smile, what’s underneath matters just as much as what’s on the surface.
