Spotlight: Marrazzo’s NORTH RIVER

The East Coast seasonal changes have identifying wild hues!

Posted

Starting with fall, here we go once again!   Harvest is on the horizon.  Sun shines shorter, weather cools and the plant’s ability to produce chlorophyll abundantly are all signals that Ole’ Man Winter is approaching.

The trees, plants, even our lawns, recognize it’s time to conserve water and nutrients, sealing off pathways and begin to form a vital self-preserving layer of cells, the Abscission.  Blooms are sparse, leaves change color.  Our bonus is the day’s display of wild hues!

The process permits Carotenoids (yellow & orange), ever-present pigments, to take the stage!  Anthocyanins (red & purple) form from trapped sugars in the leaf, as plants begin their self-preserving process.  Sunny days & cooler nights will dramatically affect hue and vibrancy, as does the amount of water that had been provided and stored by the plant, cumulatively, throughout spring and summer.

Winter is monochromatic, beige.  However, there is just absolutely nothing like a bearing down snow-storm that keeps littles at home, a fire in the stove, baking bread in the oven and mittens drying on the railing.  Rare days, great memories!

Snow and ice melt.  The day’s sun shines longer.  Green grass, revealed slowly.  The cyclical change is our hope of a new growing season, arriving not a moment too soon!  Purple & yellow, the first colors bursting for attention!  Spring has sprung!

The momentum of warming Mother Earth encourages the next season of a plant’s development, reclamation, healing and survival.  The branch extends, leaves re-grow to produce chlorophyll (the plant’s blood) for absorption of sunlight) for photosynthesis.  Summer’s re-energizing activities ignite the plant’s growth, and requires our attention to feed, water, & nourish them, so they may be colorful, resilient, and plentiful for harvest, healthy, all 365 days ~
